Wondering how to personalize your wedding? Everyone wants their wedding day to be memorable and unique. The best way to accomplish that is make choices that reflect you as a couple. Forget about what a wedding is “supposed to be.”
If you like to be outdoors in nature and feel most comfortable in jeans and hiking boots then it isn’t a good idea to host a black tie affair at a swanky hotel. Here are some ideas to get you thinking about how to incorporate who you are into your wedding day:
Location, location, location:
The location sets the “scene” of your wedding day. So, when you go looking for a wedding venue take into account the feeling that you get from the location. Do you want the serenity of wind whistling through the tall pines? Do you want the peaceful calm of a Japanese Garden?
The glorious majesty of the desert mountains? Or the tranquil grandeur of an italian estate? Do you have access to an exclusive location like your grandmother’s garden, or a family home that you can transform into your own fairytale? The glorious majesty of the desert mountains? The ceremony is one of the most important parts of your day. You can personalize the ceremony by writing your own vows or incorporating a unique unity ceremony. Sarah & Austin created a unique unity ceremony with a custom barrel of whiskey. When we were married we had our officiant explain the importance of the engagement ring as a promise and the wedding ring as the vow. This is why we wear the wedding ring closest to the heart and the engagement ring is then placed after the wedding ring so that the “promise protects the vow”. We also had our wedding rings passed amongst our guests before we exchanged them in the ceremony. This way everyone who was present and important to us could have a moment to bless the rings. While the rings were being passed around, a dear friend played the guitar and sang a song. It was a moment in time that we will never forget.
Food & Beverage:
Your menu can be crafted in a way that is a special reminder of your loved ones. You can serve recipes that have been passed down in your family. Do you have a favorite memory as a kid of making personal pizzas? Incorporate your memory by serving made to order wood fired pizzas!
Your wedding cake can be designed to show the story of your relationship from dating to the proposal and finally your wedding day. Not a cake lover? Serve pie, donuts or other desserts instead and find ways to showcase your favorite movies or tv shows.
Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime event and it should encompass the things that are unique to your story as a couple. So, brainstorm ways that you can highlight your family traditions and make your wedding day unforgettable.
